Tool Maker / Machinist is responsible for fabricating various items per drawings from engineering department and assisting in the fabrication or modification of equipment as needed.

Qualification Requirements

· College degree or trade school

· 3+ years of experience of tool room experience or basic machining operations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Ability to follow demonstrated instructions

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations manual, and written directions

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

· Ability to identify potential issues found on drawings and make applicable changes

· Ability to read and speak in English

· Ability to follow demonstrated instructions

· Ability to operate machine shop equipment, i.e. lathe, mill, grinder, saw, sander, etc.

· Ability to write reports

· Ability to use tools, read rulers, scales and gauges

· Ability to read complex drawings, diagrams or blueprints

· Ability to work independently as well as in a group environment

· Intermediate computer skills in order to operate client's computer system

· Knowledge of clean room protocol, procedures and material safety data sheet (MSDS) is required

Essential Functions

· Require minimal technical guidance

· Performs difficult development work

· Plans, designs, constructs or repairs a wide variety of intricate and complicated tools, dies, jigs, gauges, fixtures to close tolerances

· Constructs complex units where design is available and works with engineering department to fabricate tooling from print

· Selects allowances and devises mechanism detail

· Performs skilled fitting, timing and adjusting

· Works from complicated drawings and sketches

· Uses advanced shop mathematics and all types of precision measuring instruments

· Work to include combination dies for parts of irregular contour, ordinary index milling fixtures, box type dril jigs with difficult locating or nesting features and complicated foot press and arbor press tools

· Modify, fabricate equipment as needed

· Make adjustments or verify equipment prior to production usage

· Assemble products or sub-assemblies with narrow tolerances

· Perform quality inspections on finished product

· Follow safety requirements and wear appropriate PPE

Physical Demands

· Must be able to work in a clean room environment, adhere to associated policies, and perform gowning of clean room attire

· Lift, pull and push up to 75 lbs

· Requires good manual dexterity for a range of motions (standing, walking, bending, reaching)

· Requires visual acuity including ability to distinguish colors

· Requires fine manipulation, eye-hand coordination to manipulate very small parts, tweezers and other instruments

· Must be able to multi-task

· Must be able to work under florescent lighting

· Requires the ability to sit or stand through the duration of a shift

· Requires the ability to regularly perform repetitive motions and to bond using repetitive moderate force gripping

· Cell or phone access for emergencies

· May require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet needs of department

Work Environment

· Machine Shop environment, noise

· Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals

· Proximity to moving mechanical parts

· Manufacturing, desk, business offices, warehouse

· Clean room environment where gowns, hair cover, shoe covers, safety glasses and gloves are worn at all times

· Requires the ability to work in extreme cold or heat
