Abatec is working in partnership with a highly respected civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Bridgwater, who have an opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their supportive and close-knit commercial team. With an established presence across Somerset, South Wales, and Devon, our client plays a vital role in delivering essential infrastructure projects across a wide range of sectors. From flood alleviation and coastal resilience to defence, nuclear, and residential developments, their portfolio includes highway upgrades, complex drainage systems, and major infrastructure works with project values ranging from £100k to £15m.

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will:

* Assist in the commercial management of 2-3 live projects simultaneously.

* Support in the preparation and processing of subcontractor payments, take-offs, variations, CVRs, and final accounts.

* Maintain accurate records to monitor cost and value performance against agreed targets.

* Contribute to change control processes, ensuring variations are tracked and managed effectively.

* Take part in the review and improvement of internal procedures and systems.

Our client requires a Quantity Surveyor with:

* Experience working for a groundworks or civil engineering contractor.

* A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying or a related field.

* Strong commercial awareness with a proactive approach to cost control and value optimisation.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

* A valid UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel to local project sites when needed.

Salary/Benefits:

* Up to £45,000 per annum

* Car or car allowance

* 25 days + bank holidays

* Employer pension contribution
