Our Commercial Operations team is a cross-business unit organization responsible for operational activities and execution to enable the success of business unit strategies for both digital and traditional channels. Our Commercial Operations organization consists of teams focused in the following areas: Consumer Insights & Analytics, Digital Consumer Experience, Ecommerce Sales Strategy & Operations, and Revenue & Profit Management. These teams work collaboratively with each business unit to maximize our competitive edge in the marketplace.

Job Summary

The Category Analyst functions as the category expert, supporting Sales and Marketing (Product & Trade) to drive sales and increase market share. This person is responsible for data analysis and reporting, educating cross-functional teams on category trends and opportunities. This includes a thorough understanding of key retailer product assortment, pricing and promotions.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Analytical (50%)
- Manage channel & account level data reporting and analysis with the responsibility of understanding product and category drivers.
- Work with cross functional teams to lead internal seasonal and quarterly category reviews:
- Category, Segment, Brand, Retailer and Price Trends
- Promotional Summaries
- Support key account analysis and strategy development to increase distribution and maximize sales:
- New distribution and white space opportunities
- Risk to existing item distribution
- Promotional opportunities and strategy
- Merchandising opportunities
- Analyze POS (point of sale) data of competitive products to answer ad hoc questions.
- Utilize consumer panel data to identify consumer demographic and purchase profile trends and insights.

Support (30%)
- Develop and manage a generic toolkit of category and consumer insights across key categories for sales to use in customer presentations.
- Develop compelling selling stories to support strategic category and brand initiatives using fact based analysis.

Other (20%)
- Leverage best practices throughout other brand teams and Spectrum Brand divisions to improve on efficiency and drive new ideas.
- Manage the Nielsen syndicated database and dictionaries, including submitting all new items for coding.
- Manage SharePoint and/or P Drive reference libraries.

Education and Experience Profile
- BS/BA in Business, Marketing or Statistics or 4 years of equivalent experience required.
- 0-3 years of experience in supporting a consumer packaged goods sales organization.
- Prior marketing or sales support related job experience preferred.

- Intermediate knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint, high proficiency in Word & Outlook.
- Developing knowledge of available syndicated data sources.
- Developing knowledge of available planogram/merchandising software.
