(Contract) Systems Engineer (Build And Deployment)

The Task:

Templeton & Partners is currently working with a large commercial client to look for an systems engineers (build and deployment)

Initial 12 contract, based in Aberdeen.

The purpose of the systems engineer (build and deployment) is to act as the focal point before deployment in production.

This is an in-house Level 2 support engineer who typically gets involved in appropriately testing various changes to the infrastructure and application services through the development, test, staging environment and performing post-production testing to ensure technical changes have been correctly applied.

* Ensure all technical work is delivered to high standards following build & deployment cookbooks and SOPs (standard operating procedures).
* Working with the deployment PMs and support engineers to configure equipment for rig deployments.
* Adheres to the Company change management process in the communication and coordination of changes that impact any Company production computing systems.
* Production of technical documentation as required.
* Develop, implement processes as required to ensure that work is delivered to high standards and review quality assurance processes to enhance performance.
* Deliver and perform deployment for offshore rigs.
* Maintain and manage hardware inventory ensuring operation environment compliance and the evergreening of landscape.
* Provide input to the architecture team on any redesign or engineering work for the solutions being supported.
* Act as a consultant to identify technical supportability concerns with rig infrastructure.
* You will facilitate technical training as necessary.
* Knowledge of fibre and other cabling technology utilised on drilling rigs beneficial.

Special Challenges:

* Business awareness - to understand the critical processes and schedules of the customers business.
* Maintain Technical awareness - ensuring that a broad understanding of the business services dependent on each part of the infrastructure is maintained, in a constantly changing environment.

Skills & Requirements:

Candidate will require at least 5 years' experience in a wide range of computing, data and telecommunications equipment. Good working knowledge of data networks and associated cabling infrastructures and specifications also required. Experience of working offshore delivering IT services.

* Preferred: Graduate in Engineering/Sciences
* Experience and technical knowledge of the following:

* Hyper-V - deployment experience
* Windows Active Directory
* Windows Server 2016 - deployment experience
* Understanding of Cisco switching and VLANs (virtual local area network)
* Windows Client operating system machines - deployment experience
* HPE servers
* Cisco Router and switch
* Firewall configuration experience

* Ability to work effectively within a diverse global team
* Ability to follow and actively improve, automate processes
* Flexible, adaptable and able to work under pressure and efficiently multitask
* Proven ability to interface with vendors and influence 3rd Parties for the delivery of IT services
* Highly motivated with excellent communication/interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within a team environment and work unsupervised
* Strong critical thinking ability and willingness to take ownership of tasks without direction
