Attendance Officer – Secondary Schools

We are currently working with a number of mainstream secondary schools across East Lancashire who are seeking experienced Attendance Officers to join their teaching and pastoral teams.
Attendance plays a vital role in student achievement, and these roles offer the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting schools in improving attendance, engagement, and safeguarding outcomes for pupils.
The Role:
As an Attendance Officer, you will work closely with senior leaders, pastoral staff, families, and external agencies to:
- Monitor and analyse attendance and punctuality data
- Follow up on student absence and lateness in line with school policies
- Build positive relationships with pupils and parents/carers
- Support early intervention strategies to improve attendance
- Maintain accurate records and reporting systems
- Contribute to safeguarding procedures and multi-agency working where required
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have previous, relevant experience working in an attendance, pastoral, welfare, or education-based role
- Have experience within mainstream secondary schools (essential)
- Be confident communicating with pupils, families, and professionals
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding responsibilities
- Be organised, resilient, and able to manage sensitive conversations professionally
- Work effectively as part of a wider teaching and pastoral team
