HEAD VETERINARY NURSE Fife, Scotland Salary £35-£42K per annum.
You're a Head Nurse and blooming good at your job. You became a nurse to help animals, you used to know your clients personally, you knew who you worked for and had a say in how the practice operated. Profession charges used to be fair and reasonable.
However, for whatever reason (perhaps it's since the corporate takeover) your role has changed. Less time for clients and patients and its now more about hitting targets, attending meeting after meeting, constantly in the office form filling and responding to inane email enquires from management - receiving no thanks for all your hard work. This isn't what you enjoy or signed up for.
You have bags of experience but it's not being utilised and you are frustrated, thinking about moving but worried you will get more of the same.
Being a Head Nurse is all you ever wanted to be. Passing your knowledge to junior colleagues, leading by example from the front and giving back to the profession you love being able to financially help the clients who needed it most. Free to nurse with zero targets, patients first, the ability to make a difference and inspiring your industrious and friendly team.
Luckily there are still places where they welcome this philosophy and one of them is hiring.
A brand new state of the art independent practice is opening in May 2024 and they are recruiting for a Head Nurse. The clinic is being built by vet John Ferguson who used to own the renowned East Neuk Veterinary Clinic in St Monans, Fife. So he knows a thing or two about how to galvanise a committed team and run a successful practice.
The Clinic will major in Orthopaedic Referrals. A Primary Care clinic will run alongside to serve the local community. Plans are in place to offer additional specialist led Referral disciplines.
The practice will be client and patient led first and foremost. Designed with staff well-being in mind - spacious, open, with plenty of light, all the best equipment and conveniently located for staff, clients and Referral Practices alike.
Offering a relaxed environment where everyone pulls together when it is busy and relaxes when it's time. A strong team that wants the best for patients, who are valued and respected and have an equal voice in how the clinic is run. No faceless remote hierarchy of line managers to report to here.
Leading a team of 10-12 RVNs, you will be getting stuck in from the start, creating staff rotas, upholding standards, creating SOP's, undertaking team appraisals and liaising with the Practice Manager and Vets to help create an efficient and smooth running work place.
The position is full time 5 days a week, but 4 days would be considered, with no OOH or weekend duties. A pension scheme, 29 days holiday with an excellent CPD allowance plus all professionally fees paid come as standard.
Based in Glenrothes in the centre of Fife with shops, restaurants and facilities nearby. Boasting excellent schools, beautiful countryside, pretty fishing villages and a convenient rail network with easy access to the Scottish Highlands. The area is ideal for walking, skiing or even surfing along the West Sands beach in St Andrews. Not to mention some of the best golf courses in the country.
Choosing a new practice is a big decision and a big move. You want to put patients first again, help teach, inspire, learn and develop but most of all work with a team of like minded individuals and make a difference.
Although having experience of leading a team in a Referral setting and holding a surgical Diploma would be an advantage, it's not a prerequisite. Being enthusiastic, personable with an ability to organise and lead is more important
So, what's next?
Send your CV, don't worry if it's not up to date. We can't get the whole story in a job ad so ask any questions. I'll answer honestly, no hard sell.
