Head of Chemistry - Independent Senior School - Downton - September 2025 Start

A leading co-educational independent school in Downton, located just south of Salisbury, is looking to appoint an ambitious and visionary Head of Chemistry to lead the department from September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent position offering the opportunity to shape and enhance a dynamic academic provision.

The school has a long-standing tradition of excellence in science education, with a strong cohort of pupils achieving top grades at GCSE and A-Level. The science block is well-equipped, and the Chemistry department is known for its academic depth, enrichment opportunities, and innovative teaching approaches.

The successful Head of Chemistry will be responsible for:

Leading curriculum development and assessment strategy for KS3, GCSE, and A-Level Chemistry

Mentoring departmental staff and supporting Early Career Teachers

Overseeing lab safety, stock control, and budget management with the support of technicians

Coordinating science competitions, lecture series, and collaborations with universities

Actively contributing to the life of the school through boarding involvement and enrichment
