# Position Information

## Position Summary

Study Abroad Program Assistants provide logistical and administrative support for faculty-led study abroad programs offered by SUNY Geneseo. Assistants assist with program arrangements and orientation programs prior to departure, help with logistical support while traveling abroad with the group, and submit documentation and reports to the Study Abroad Office after the group returns. Program Assistants are hired on an as-needed basis for specific study abroad programs. Travel expenses including overseas transportation, lodging, meals, and activities are provided. A modest salary is paid after the program ends and all administrative duties are completed. Program Assistants must complete a mandatory training program prior to assignment.

## Required Qualifications

* Attention to detail and ability to handle ambiguous situations and/or competing demands in a safe and effective manner

* Ability to effectively handle confidential and/or sensitive information

* Must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

* Valid U.S. Passport

## Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or higher or currently matriculating bachelor's degree candidate

* Previous international travel experience

* Previous experience in the country of destination

* Intercultural communication skills

* Basic knowledge of a language other than English (if applicable in the country of destination)

Function 1- Administrative Support
Assist study abroad program faculty director and study abroad office staff with pre-departure course and program arrangements, including confirming program arrangements, setting up orientation meetings with program participants, and responding to participant inquiries. Assist study abroad program faculty director and study abroad office staff with on-the-ground program operations, including logistical arrangements, financial record keeping, and responding to student requests for support or assistance. Liaison between students and program faculty directors and/or study abroad office staff. Assist with post-program administrative wrap-up, including follow-up with participants and submission of program records to the study abroad office.

Under guidance from the faculty program director, prepare academic materials and/or deliver presentations to participants specific to course content, program location, or program activities. Hold office hours for program participants. Respond to participants' academic inquiries.

Assist program faculty director and study abroad office staff in the event of participant health, safety, or emergency situation. Assist program faculty director and study abroad office staff in responding to significant disruptions to the program due to unforeseen circumstances.
