We have an urgent need in Woodcliff Lake, NJ for a Sr. Systems Operations Engineer

The Sr. Systems Operations Engineer I, Aftersales & Engineering DevOps will primarily focus on software quality and operations activities for a highly technical full-stack development-related team resulting in solid partner relations with necessary partner/stakeholder groups within BMW, improvement of testing effectiveness, quality activities and operations within the Aftersales & Engineering groups and an overall improvement on quality and operations related deliverables.
This technical role will execute and effective Operations experience into process practice across all business areas and be responsible for Operations Excellence by applying the ITIL methodologies.
He/She should have a passion for solving complex issues, while having the flexibility and adaptability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies when necessary with a consistent positive attitude. He/She must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and willing to take on challenging opportunities as needed.

Key responsibilities include:
Strong troubleshooting & analytical skills and ability to organize teams and process to facilitate resolution of production issues.
Facilitate the implementation of best practice patterns focused around "infrastructure as code" and "end to end automation" including a strong focus on system and application performance monitoring by using Dynatrace and other monitoring & analysis software
KPI driven influence on the overall system architecture by supporting development teams on analyzing the most critical system components in the area around performance and availability and capture the findings as backlog items.
Contribute to development teams on topics concerning Operations
Lead the steering of SLA's, and of all Incident, Change, Problem & Configuration Management processes
Lead the approach to system level operations automation including tools and methods
Ability to develop and run scripts, debug software bugs and identify solutions in source code
Drives quality feedback loop and initiatives towards development teams
Leads defect root cause initiatives
Identifies and mitigates project risks, acts on recovery, leads progress
Demonstrates continuous improvement process execution

This position will require occasional off hours support (outside of 8:30AM and 4:30PM EST) for standby operational support or for key meetings with offshore resources/critical application support.

Position Specifics:

Required Qualifications and Experience

BS or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or similar field of study
4+ years of recent experience as a systems operations engineer, or similar IT work
ITIL process working knowledge
Clear ability to understand how business needs translate IT solutions.
Strong & creative analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy in a large-scale production environment
Identifies and leads continuous improvement process opportunities with measurable results that are impactful to the organization
Excellent software engineering skills in: object-oriented design, test driven development, automated unit testing, continuous integration and deployment, etc.
High energy, a passion for software and ability to work in a highly collaborative agile environment
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, & of Agile tools (Jira, Confluence)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent orginizational habits: documentation, maintainability, serviceability, etc.
Ability to understand design patterns, object-oriented principles, and architectural best practices
Ability to simultaneously manage several initiatives and self-prioritize workload

Desired Qualification:

Strong familiarity with solutions that used virtual machines, cloud services (AWS, Azure, including relevant micro service & API architecture)
Basic experience using Internet technologies such as web services, HTML, XML, CSS, AJAX, Java, JavaScript, node.js, http, DHTML.
Basic understanding of various web service technologies such as SOAP, REST or OData
1-2 years Automotive OEM industry experience
