SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) - Primary School - Dartford

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated SENCO to join our inclusive primary school community in Dartford on a full-time, permanent basis.

Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Start Date: ASAP or September 2024
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, from 8.30am to 4.30pm
Location: Dartford, Kent

Role Overview:

As our SENCO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our school provides outstanding support for pupils with SEND. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies that meet the diverse needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision and oversee the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEN pupil achievement.
  • Coordinate and manage the provision for children with SEN, including the deployment of the school's delegated budget and resources.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of all SEN pupils and their progress.
  • Support the identification of and provision for pupils with SEN.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents, and other agencies.
  • Contribute to the professional development of staff through training and sharing of best practices.
  • Ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a thorough understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and Equality Act.
  • Proven experience as a SENCO or in a similar role within a primary school setting.
  • A postgraduate qualification in SEN (e.g., National Award for SEN Coordination) is desirable.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • An enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
