Design Engineer - Automation (Mechanical)

About the Role

W Talent are recruiting a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading automation business based in Birmingham. You will be specialising in the design of jigs, fixtures, assembly benches, and both semi-automated and fully automated production cells. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for innovation and improving manufacturing efficiency across sectors such as automotive and aerospace.

Key Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with a dedicated lean manufacturing and design team to develop bespoke machinery solutions.

· Design tooling and automation equipment to enhance customer manufacturing operations using SolidWorks.

· Produce and issue detailed manufacturing drawings, work closely with the workshop team.

· Ensure accurate interpretation of design intent during manufacturing.

· Support commissioning and testing of designed systems.

· Build strong working relationships with customers, understanding their needs and delivering tailored solutions.

· Ensure all designs comply with internal standards and customer specifications.

Requirements:

· Proven experience with SolidWorks and PDM.

· A strong background in mechanical design engineering.

· Special purpose machinery experience.

· Experience with Catia V5 (desirable but not essential).

· Excellent attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.

· A proactive and self-motivated approach to project work.
