An innovative Biotech organisation are looking for a Senior Research Scientist in the area of Developmental Microbiology to join their growing team in Cambridge. This company focuses on the development of novel microbiome-based therapies for future use in a variety of diseases. Their novel and cutting-edge research is supported by a number associated research facilities.

As the Senior Research Scientist, you will join their pre-clinical team and contribute to their ulcerative colitis and oncology preclinical programs. You will develop molecular and microbiological assays for the characterisation of novel gut bacteria, which will be used to develop live bacterial therapeutics to alter the composition of the gut microbiome.

This is a key role within the business and will allow you to be involved at the cutting edge of therapeutic microbiome science, working alongside multi-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

* Developing microbiological and molecular assays to characterise novel bacterial isolates.

* Characterisation of anaerobic gut bacteria for the development, as medicinal products, into live bacterial therapeutics for the modulation of the human gut microbiome.

* Development and optimisation of PCR assays, to identify and quantify bacterial strains within the gut microbiome.

* Performing assay validation, suitable for cGMP manufacturing for early-stage clinical trials.

* Supporting tech transfer of assays to CDMOs and CROs as required.

Requirements:

* PhD in Microbiology or related field.

* At least 3 years' experience working in an industrial setting, or relevant post-doctoral experience with industry partners covering analytical method development in a drug development environment.

* Experience working with anaerobic bacteria would be desirable.
