Drive Academic Excellence: Teacher of History - Outstanding Portsmouth School (KS3-5)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and academically rigorous Teacher of History to join our consistently Outstanding secondary school in Portsmouth from September 2025. We are looking for a History specialist dedicated to maximising student attainment and deepening analytical skills.

We are seeking a History specialist who can deliver exceptional teaching and learning across all key stages, from building foundational chronological understanding and source analysis skills at KS3 to guiding students through the rigours of GCSE History and advanced A-Level History. Our students are ambitious, hard-working, and consistently achieve excellent results, with many progressing to top universities to study History or related fields. Our History department is well-resourced, benefits from strong leadership, and maintains a proven track record of outstanding academic outcomes. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and further elevating these high standards, ensuring every student reaches their full potential as an independent historian.

If you are passionate about fostering a deep understanding of historical methodology, primary and secondary sources, and historiographical debates, and are committed to academic rigour and outstanding teaching that prepares students for the highest levels of historical scholarship, we strongly encourage your application.

Key responsibilities include:

* Designing and delivering meticulously planned, challenging, and intellectually stimulating History lessons that promote deep understanding, analytical thinking, and effective essay writing across KS3, KS4, and KS5.

* Rigorous assessment of student progress, providing precise, data-informed feedback that drives rapid improvement, and implementing targeted intervention strategies where necessary.

* Actively contributing to the development of our robust History curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards and innovative teaching practices, drawing on local historical relevance where possible.

* Leading or supporting extra-curricular activities such as academic clubs, historical re-enactments, or trips to local and national historical sites.

* Upholding the high academic standards of our Outstanding school in all aspects of teaching, assessment, and professional conduct.
