Pay Rate: £16.70 per hour (Umbrella) / £13.26 per hour (PAYE)

About the Role

Reading Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Practitioner to support children and young people in a residential care setting. This role involves providing high-quality care, promoting positive outcomes, and supporting children's emotional, social, and developmental needs.

You will work as part of a team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
Support children in their daily routines, promoting independence and wellbeing

Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people

Promote and safeguard the welfare of children at all times

Support emotional, behavioural, and social development

Follow care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures

Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals

Maintain accurate records and reports

Requirements
NVQ Level 3 in Childcare / Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

Registered and subscribed to the DBS Update Service

Knowledge of good practice in residential childcare settings

Experience working with children

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Working Pattern This role operates on a shift basis, including:

7:00am - 3:00pm

2:00pm - 10:00pm

Alternate weekend working required
