The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established and highly regarded engineering consultancy in Birmingham. Known for delivering complex ground engineering solutions across infrastructure and development projects, the team is continuing to grow and is looking to strengthen its technical capability.

This role offers the chance to take ownership of projects, contribute to innovative design solutions, and play a key role in mentoring junior staff within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of geotechnical design projects across a range of sectors
Interpret and assess ground investigation data to inform design solutions
Design foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, and slope stability systems
Produce and review detailed geotechnical reports and calculations
Provide technical oversight and ensure quality assurance across projects
Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
Supervise ground investigations and support site-based activities when required
Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates
Contribute to tenders and project bids, supporting continued business growth

Requirements

Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline
5-10 years' experience within a geotechnical consultancy environment
Strong background in design and analysis of geotechnical structures
Proficient with software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or equivalent
Solid understanding of Eurocode 7 and UK design standards
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
Proven ability to manage projects and deliver to deadlines

Desirable

Chartered status (CEng or CGeol) or working towards
Experience working on infrastructure and major development projects
Broader understanding of geoenvironmental considerations
Experience supporting or leading junior team members
