About the OpportunityTeignbridge District Council is seeking an experienced Development Management Team Leader to guide and support a high-performing team during a pivotal period for the service. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced planning professional with strong leadership capability and a background in complex case management.
You will play a key role in driving high-quality performance across the Development Management function, acting as case officer on major applications and deputising for senior leadership where required.
What You’ll Be Doing- Lead & Manage the Team – Oversee workload allocation, performance management, staff development and service delivery to ensure KPIs and local indicators are consistently met.
- Quality Assurance – Ensure all planning advice, decisions and recommendations—both your own and the team’s—are accurate, robust, compliant with legislation and considerate of public and stakeholder representations.
- Strategic Input – Play an active role in the wider Development Management leadership team, contributing to service planning, long-term strategy and policy development.
- Major Applications – Act as case officer for key major projects, helping drive high-quality outcomes that support the council’s priorities.
- Communications & Media Handling – Respond to media enquiries in alignment with Comms guidance and senior leadership direction.
- Deputising Duties – Provide cover for the Head of Development Management and the Planning Support Manager when required.
