Timing:0800 to 20:00 hours per shift, 4 on and 4 off
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and motivated Specialist Domestic Abuse Support Worker to join our residential support team in East Sussex.You will play a key role in providing safety, stability and empowerment for survivors of domestic abuse, including individuals with multiple or complex needs.
This role involves supporting residents across several refuge locations, offering both practical and emotional support as they rebuild their lives and move toward independence.
What You’ll Do
- Provide 1:1 support, keywork sessions and crisis intervention for survivors.
- Complete detailed needs and risk assessments and develop personalised care plans.
- Create a supportive, trauma-informed environment across residential sites.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies such as local authorities, police and support services.
- Assist residents with accessing benefits, housing options, external services and everyday practical tasks.
- Maintain accurate case records, logs and incident reports in line with safeguarding and GDPR requirements.
- Help coordinate and deliver group activities and community reintegration sessions.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive environment, confidently de-escalating challenging situations when needed.
- Participate in an agreed on-call rota to support service needs.
Essential:
- Strong working knowledge of domestic abuse and survivors’ experiences.
- Experience working within residential settings or services supporting vulnerable people.
- Understanding of safeguarding, risk management and trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to manage complex situations, make sound decisions and remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication, report-writing and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work both independently and within a team.
- Awareness of the benefits system, especially housing-related support.
- First Aid qualified or willing to undertake training.
Desirable:
- Experience of benefit claim processes.
- Understanding of housing needs for survivors.
- Experience managing a residential service.
- Relevant qualification (e.g., Social Work).
