Job Description
"Job Summary:

 


The controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.

 


Essential Functions:

 


Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger.
Analyzes fiscal policies, controls, and procedures and recommends changes as needed.
Reviews and posts all journals and transactions to the General Ledger.
Performs daily review of cash balances and weekly transfers.
Responsible for drafting, maintaining and controlling expenses within departmental budgets on an annual basis
Reviews all contract labor payroll reports.
Approves all new vendors and reviews all new vendor contracts/agreements.
Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities.
Monthly processing and payment of all transactions related to the GE loan agreement.
Maintenance of chart of accounts in Great Plains and reports in FRX.
Weekly and monthly review of bank reconciliations.
Assist in the quarterly review and payment of all tax payments and junior restricted payments.
Coordinate the annual financial audit and any follow up items.
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
Maintain a system of controls over all accounting transactions.
Issue timely and complete financial statements.
Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
Calculates and issue financial and operating metrics.
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Maintain confidentiality and safeguards the operations of business.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Bachelor's Degree or higher and 10+ years in the accounting field. CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred.

 


Required Knowledge: Requires knowledge of GAAP.

 


Experience Required: 10+ years progressive professional-level experience in the accounting or finance field.

 


Skill and Ability: Must possess strong organizational, supervisory, analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong leadership and project management skills. Must have great attention to detail. Requires excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Great Plains, and FRX. Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity.
