Job Description

Basic Function

Operate a variety of test equipment, conduct tests per procedures, prepare and maintain reports of results to assure the quality of the product meets PCC and customer’s specifications through various process stages. The employee relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform functions of job, reviews data for compliance and notifies management when nonconformance are found. This position may also participate in programs that will establish, improve and/or monitor overall quality of processes, systems and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepares samples and test specimens.

  • Operates all laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable written procedures. This includes but is not limited to the following: Spectrophotometer, Melt Index units, Moisture analyzer, Ovens, and Molding machines.

  • Analyzes tests results of product and make formula adjustments when needed.

  • Evaluates test data to ensure that the product meets PCC and customer product specifications.

  • Works with other departments to ensure that Quality is being met thru all stages of the process.

  • Records data for all tests and maintain records. Report potential problems to supervisor for resolution, such as tests that do not conform to specifications for the same item or material.

  • Assists in compiling statistics on laboratory operations as instructed by Supervisor.

  • Completes and provides certifications for customers on tests conducted by the laboratory.

  • Reviews incoming raw materials supplier certifications for compliancy and appropriately file in records. Also, evaluate samples from raw material suppliers for adherence to product specifications.

  • Ensures calibrations on all test equipment are up to date and in accordance with Quality Procedures and or Manufacturer’s Instructions.

  • Aids supervisor to Investigate customer returns and / or problems to determine cause and suggest corrective actions.

  • Assists in developing, improving and modifying laboratory procedures, systems, methods and equipment to improve quality and reduce cost.

  • Participates in supporting quality audits by internal auditors, ISO registrar, and customers.

  • Operates the department’s computers for word processing, spread sheets and certification test reports and other data collection.

  • Passes on information as to the status of incomplete tests to technicians on following shift.

  • Assists in material disposition and identification on rejected / non- conforming material.

 

Second Shift Position. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Overtime may be required.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or up to 2 years related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Ability to convert pounds to metric values.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook as well as other web based software.

Other Skills Must be able to pass color test.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and talk or hear but majority is standing. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Safety Follows all company work rules, safety practices, and wearing of personal protective equipment.
