We are seeking an experienced and committed Data Centre Senior Shift Engineer to join our highly skilled Engineering team at Santander Carlton Park. In this critical role, you will help maintain the reliability, performance, and safety of our mission‑critical data centre infrastructure.
You'll take pride in delivering exceptional technical service, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance activities meet strict SLAs, and proactively supporting the shift team to achieve 100% uptime. As Senior Shift Engineer, you will also provide cover for the shift supervisor during holidays or absence, taking responsibility for overseeing operations and supporting the team.

- Deputise for the Shift Supervisor when required, providing operational leadership during holidays or sickness.
- Oversee and supervise the monitoring, operation, and maintenance of mission‑critical systems within the data centre.
- Support the shift team to deliver a high‑quality engineering service.
- Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms, ensuring all actions are completed within SLA.
- Complete, record, and maintain all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks and documentation.
- Carry out general housekeeping to ensure all areas remain clean, safe, and hazard‑free.
- Maintain full compliance with Health & Safety policies and safe working practices.
- Help drive team motivation, collaboration, and commitment to client and company standards.
- Take a proactive, solutions‑focused approach to reactive and remedial tasks to maintain 100% uptime.
- Monitor and review permits, working practices, and sub‑contractor activities, including use of the CAFM system.
- Maintain a strong understanding of emergency procedures including SOPs, EOPs, and CEOPs.
- Provide shift cover as required to support holidays or absence.
Essential Qualifications
- Time‑served engineer with NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge & Experience- Multi-skilled engineer with strong understanding of M&E and HVAC systems, including water, gas, heating, ventilation, and waste.
- Proven experience working in critical environments (e.g., data centres, hospitals, financial institutions).
- Customer‑focused approach to service delivery.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and people‑supporting skills.
- Good understanding of modern data centre M&E systems.
- Ability to take charge during incidents, manage escalations, and make sound decisions.
- Competent in maintaining both computer-based and hard-copy statutory inspection and maintenance records.
- Able to work on own initiative within a continental shift pattern.
- Willingness to provide support across multiple sites when required (primarily one main building).
