Transportation Project Engineer
  • Rate: £35–£40 per hour (PAYE), Umbrella: £45.86 - £52.47
  • Duration: 12 weeks initially

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer to provide technical and professional expertise across a diverse portfolio of local transport and road safety initiatives. This role is crucial for scheme assessment, design development, and delivery, helping to shape safer, smarter mobility solutions for communities.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead and support the design and delivery of transportation schemes from concept to detailed design.
  • Deliver across a variety of programmes, including:
    • £3 million Local Neighbourhood and Road Safety Scheme
    • £750,000 Safer Roads Project
    • £200,000 Small-Scale Intervention Programme
    • Multiple bus service improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including political bodies and funding authorities.
  • Apply engineering judgement to prioritise resource-light environments and deliver value across project scales.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with local authority objectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in transportation engineering within local authority contexts.
  • Sound technical background and delivery expertise across schemes of various sizes.
  • Understanding of road safety, active travel, and bus improvement programmes.
  • Self-sufficient and proactive — able to hit the ground running with minimal guidance.
  • Comfortable navigating political environments and public engagement dynamics.
  • Basic DBS required.
