Consultant/Senior Consultant - Plastics Specialist

Our client is an independent and ethical environmental consultancy. They work with a broad range of organisations from trans-national bodies such as the OECD, UNEP and the European Union, through to national governments, local authorities and business support organisations (including Scottish Enterprise, Zero Waste Scotland, WRAP). They are also appointed advisors to numerous blue-chip companies, private equity funds and lenders

A vacancy currently exists for a Consultant/Senior Consultant - Plastics Specialist. In this role you will be involved in a range of activities including acting as technical lead on specific projects, leading the development of technical aspects of bids, client relationship development and management, and potentially line management. You will undertake complex Excel-based modelling, desktop research, and technical report writing. You will be involved in multiple projects at any one time. These may include: the design of national DRS and EPR schemes; design and implementation of technical methodologies to determine the volume of plastics waste at national levels; development of methodologies to calculate the percentage of recycled content in plastics products; and supporting national or supranational governmental bodies to develop policies relating to plastics.

You will be flexible with a strong work ethic and feel comfortable simultaneously leading and delivering a number of technical projects and bids under pressure. You will be a self- starter, highly organised, and share the company's commitment to a high quality of work. A personal interest in, and commitment to, environmental and sustainability issues is expected.

Essential Criteria:

* 2+ years' experience.

* Practical experience and understanding of the plastics industry and the plastics value chain, including knowledge of bio-based and biodegradable plastics.

* Experience of leading a team on technical projects relating to 2 or more of the following: policy design and appraisal in relation to plastics, regulations relating to packaging and products, environmental impacts associated with plastic production, use and end-of-life management.

* Familiarity with the plastics policy landscape, including awareness of EPR approaches and likely future developments.

Desirable Criteria:

* Acted as technical lead on influential and high-profile plastics policy projects in the last few years.

* Developed network of relevant individuals and organisations across the plastics sector.

* A track record/evidence of work winning.

This role can be based out of the company's offices in Bristol, Manchester or London. Homeworking during the COVID-19 pandemic is permitted.
