Machine Tool Applications Engineer - Turning Specialist

Location: Worcester (with regular UK travel)

Salary: £36,000 - £42,000 (depending on experience)

A leading machine tool manufacturer in Worcester is looking for a technically strong Applications Engineer with a solid background in turning. This role is ideal for a hands-on machinist who is currently programming and setting machines in a fast-paced subcontract environment and looking to step into a more customer-facing, technical support position.

The Role:

You'll work closely with sales, service, and engineering teams to deliver pre- and post-sales support — including technical demonstrations, customer training, and process optimisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Support customers and internal teams with advanced CNC applications, particularly turning

Plan and deliver live cutting trials, tailored demonstrations, and technical presentations

Run customer training sessions and support exhibitions/events in the UK and overseas

Demonstrate control systems and CAM software in detail

Respond to technical queries and provide on-site support when needed

Collaborate with sales engineers to provide smooth technical handovers

Stay current with developments in machining techniques, tooling, and in-process measurement

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

Currently working in a busy subcontract machining environment

Recent hands-on experience setting and programming CNC lathes and/or mill-turn machines

Strong knowledge of modern controls and CAM software

Confident communicator with the ability to liaise with customers and internal teams

Completed a Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent
Desirable:

HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

What's on Offer:

£36,000 - £42,000 salary (depending on experience)

25 days holiday + bank holidays

8% employer pension contribution

Private medical cover, life assurance (4x salary), and sick pay scheme

Paid overtime (enhanced weekday, weekend, and Sunday rates)

Free parking, uniform, subsidised canteen

Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 08:15-16:30

If you're working on the shop floor right now, programming and setting mill-turn or turning machines daily — and you're ready for a new challenge in a customer-facing applications role — we'd like to hear from you.
