Project Overview:
Our client, a major Tier 1 contractor, is delivering a high-specification new-build mental health unit in Bexhill-on-Sea, forming part of a wider NHS infrastructure improvement programme. The £20M+ healthcare project requires an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the mechanical delivery across all phases of the build.

Role Purpose:
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of mechanical services on-site. Working closely with the M&E teams, design consultants, subcontractors, and site managers, you'll ensure that all mechanical elements are installed, coordinated, and commissioned to the required quality and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support delivery of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and medical gas installations across the project.

* Coordinate and interface with subcontractors to ensure compliance with design intent, specifications, and NHS/public health standards.

* Assist with review of mechanical design drawings, technical submittals, and installation plans.

* Monitor and report on site progress, ensuring mechanical works remain on programme.

* Support quality inspections, commissioning activities, and handover documentation (including ITPs, RAMS, test certs, and O&M manuals).

* Ensure installations align with HTM/HBN standards and wider NHS guidelines.

* Liaise closely with construction and electrical teams to ensure effective MEP coordination.

* Attend project meetings and contribute to problem-solving and technical decisions on site.

* Promote and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements:

* Experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer (or similar engineering role) on large-scale commercial or healthcare projects.

* Familiarity with mechanical services in building construction (HVAC, public health, medical gases).

* CSCS card (Engineering/Management level).

* Strong working knowledge of NHS HTM/HBN and public health requirements (preferred).

* Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documents.

* Strong communication and coordination skills across stakeholders.

Desirable:

* Mechanical engineering qualification (HNC, HND or Degree).

* Experience working with Tier 1 main contractors.

* Understanding of digital construction tools or BIM coordination.

* Previous healthcare or clinical environment project experience
