Learning Support Assistant (LSA) - SEND - West Dorset

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support learners with LDD/SEND across a range of educational settings.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference, supporting young people to develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 and small group support to learners with SEND

* Support students within classroom settings and during unstructured times (e.g. breaks)

* Assist learners in accessing the curriculum and achieving their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) targets

* Act as a scribe, reader, or exam invigilator when required

* Support learners with travel training and accessing transport

* Accompany learners on work experience placements, trips, and community activities

* Work closely with teaching staff to monitor and review learner progress

* Be aware of individual risk assessments and specific learner needs

* Promote independence, confidence, and self-help skills

* Maintain accurate records related to learner support

Desirable Qualifications:

* Level 2 Maths and English (or equivalent)

* Level 2 or 3 qualification in Learning Support (or equivalent)

* Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification

* Award in Education or ELSA qualification

Skills & Competencies:

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* Good organisational and IT skills

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team

* Ability to build positive relationships with learners, staff, and parents/carers

* Flexible approach with the ability to use initiative

* Confidence in supervising students both in and out of the classroom

Knowledge & Experience:

* Understanding of working with young people with SEND

* Awareness of a range of disabilities and SEND needs

* Knowledge of behaviour management strategies

* Familiarity with relevant policies, safeguarding, and SEND legislation

* Experience supporting young people with learning disabilities and/or behavioural needs (desirable)
