Service Technicians must be able to install, maintain and repair both mechanical and circuitry issues in arcade game machines and computer software systems. This involves transporting machines and assembling them by using meters, electrical parts, hand tools and soldering irons. Arcade game technicians use manuals and wiring diagrams to keep machines in proper order and carry out various diagnostic tests. They need to be able to readily identify the most common problems with components like controls and audio systems. Technicians need to have a solid understanding of relevant safety procedures and be able to lift heavy objects. Most positions require a driver's license, because transportation of the units is commonly necessary. Duties The technician must keep good records of every installation and repair, along with the associated monetary transactions. On a daily basis, an arcade game service technician may deal with minor malfunctions as well as major ones, and he or she inspects machines to prevent such common difficulties as jams in the coin slot. Technicians also conduct tests on the machines and order replacement parts. Requirements Technicians require customer service and communication skills, since they will be working in varied places of business with machines owned by different people. The position requires significant arm, hand and finger dexterity, coordination, near vision and control precision. Critical thinking, operations monitoring and decision making are also important skills. Technicians must also understand the communication of input, reset procedures and the use of troubleshooting and malfunction codes.
