Social Worker - Best Interest Assessor

As they continue to expand there team, they are seeking a compassionate and skilled Social Worker to join them as a Best Interest Assessor.

Position Overview: As a Social Worker - Best Interest Assessor, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of individuals who may lack mental capacity to make specific decisions. You will be responsible for conducting thorough assessments to determine the best interests of the individuals in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines. This position requires a strong commitment to upholding ethical standards, empathy, and a dedication to promoting autonomy and dignity for those you serve.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals lacking mental capacity to make specific decisions, in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and other relevant legislation.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including health care professionals, legal representatives, and family members, to gather relevant information and insights.
Evaluate the individual's preferences, beliefs, values, and past decisions to inform the best interest assessment process.
Provide clear and concise reports outlining assessment findings, recommendations, and rationale, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal requirements.
Engage in sensitive and empathetic communication with individuals and their families, respecting their rights, wishes, and cultural background.
Attend court hearings and tribunals as required, presenting assessment findings and providing expert testimony when necessary.
Stay informed about changes in legislation, policies, and best practices related to mental capacity and best interest assessments, and integrate this knowledge into practice.
Advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals lacking mental capacity, promoting their autonomy and involvement in decision-making to the fullest extent possible.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, records, and case notes in compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to best interest assessment and social work practice.Qualifications and Skills:

A recognised social work qualification (e.g., Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work).
Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body (SWE).
Significant experience working as a Social Worker, with a focus on mental capacity assessments and best interest decision-making.
Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and associated Codes of Practice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and stakeholders.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to assess complex situations and make sound judgements.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Commitment to upholding ethical principles, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of clients and respond to changing priorities.
