Principal Mechanical Design Engineer



One of our main clients has an urgent requirement for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer be based out of their facility in Preston on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join a large engineering company who can provide exceptional progression opportunities.

As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer your role will entail design tasks, project management interaction, tendering tasks, quality compliance, health & safety and continual improvement.

The Principle Mechanical Designer Engineer is a design engineer with responsibility for undertaking or complying with the following:

  • Technically Responsible Person Role
  • Design Tasks
  • Project Management Interaction
  • Technical & Leadership Mentoring
  • Tendering Tasks
  • Engineering Productivity, Quality & Improvement
  • Health & Safety

My client would be keen to speak to candidates with the following expertise:

  • Has been accountable for a variety of diverse projects or activities ranging in both size and complexity
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Sound appreciation of manufacturing, assembly and test techniques
  • A very high level of commercial awareness
  • Strong technical leadership, decision making and communication skills
  • Proven record of technically leading teams, shaping the outcome of projects and assisting others in the delivery of projects
  • Sufficient technical knowledge and understanding of the industry 
  • Ability to manage his / her own workload and self-manage to deliver tasks
  • Prioritise decisions on work
  • Ability to read, understand and shape new procedures and standards
  • Proficiency in the production of standard design deliverables expected
  • Experienced user of relevant design tools, techniques and methods
  • Conversant with legislation and regulations applicable to their role and the projects they are working on
  • Degree / HND / Higher Apprenticeship in a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
