Salary: £60000 - £80000 / annually

I am currently recruiting for a passionate and experienced Technical Architect to join the architecture team with responsibility for leading and communicating the architectural vision for my client.  As a Technical Architect you will be the design authority and own the Architecture Descriptions and technical specifications for the product suite. You will provide technology leadership across as well as providing expert technical advice on projects to executives and senior management. You will work with development teams and respect the agile emergent architecture approach, whereby software is built incrementally by the scrum team. You will act as a critical friend to the senior developers and tech leads in the development teams, providing governance rather than direct ownership of the developed solutions.

Core responsibilities of the role:

  • Owning, reviewing and validating APIs provided by the software
  • High level planning and initialization of new technical pieces to fulfil business requirements
  • Understanding and appreciating the Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) of the software
  • Strategic thinking - planning beyond the immediate requirements of the solution, looking ahead and trying to take account of future objectives
  • Raise potential technical risks early to the CIO and other executives
  • Creating and maintaining architecture descriptions of the system for various stakeholders
  • Attending and organising Architectural Review Boards with key stakeholders to sign off the architecture designs
  • Keeping a log of key architectural decisions made
  • Identifying and documenting conflicts and inconsistencies in the architecture
  • Chairing the regular technical strategy meeting with the wider technical team
  • Attending customer meetings to field technical questions
  • Maintain  a technical competitive advantage and identify opportunities for new business in terms of technology
  • Weighing up the merits of off-the-shelf software vs bespoke solutions developed in house
  • Creating high level development technical spikes to research and appraise new architectural approaches
  • Writing technical user stories to be developed by the scrum team and validating delivered solutions meet the acceptance criteria in the story
  • Ensure the teams are working within the parameters of the architecture and advise the team leaders if not
  • Foster good technical practice across the development teams ensuring common patterns and best practice are shared
  • Host regular brown bag sessions and technical demos with the wider company to showcase new technologies and spread knowledge
  • Maintaining technical documentation in the development wiki
  • Creating customer facing technical documentation

Core Skills Required:

  • Experience leading technical teams and delivering user-focused services
  • Development and application architecture experience
  • Experience of cloud architecture with Azure being the preference; however AWS can be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of C#.NET
  • Strong knowledge of architectural patterns
  • Good knowledge of open-source technologies
  • Good knowledge of test-driven development and automated testing
  • Experience of microservices, event sourcing and distributed systems architecture
  • Understanding of new technologies
  • Understanding of agile environments, continual delivery, and dev-ops cultures
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Good writing skills
