About the Opportunity

We're partnered with a leading operator in the Build-to-Rent (BTR) sector to recruit a proactive and skilled Maintenance Technician for a large, modern residential development in central Sheffield. This part-time position is ideal for a hands-on professional who takes pride in maintaining high-quality living environments and delivering excellent resident service.

Role Overview

The Maintenance Technician will take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep, presentation and safety of the apartment building and its communal areas. Working closely with on-site colleagues, a block manager and external contractors, you'll ensure maintenance tasks, repairs and resident requests are completed efficiently and to a consistently high standard. The role involves both planned and reactive maintenance across a substantial residential building.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Diagnose and resolve routine maintenance issues within apartments, such as joinery, painting, decorating and appliance repairs.

  • Manage daily maintenance requests through a CRM system and ensure timely completion.

  • Maintain stock levels of tools, equipment and materials.

Building Presentation

  • Ensure the building interior, exterior and all communal spaces are clean, safe and well-presented.

  • Move or arrange furniture within apartments or communal areas when required.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Conduct daily checks of the building and plant rooms.

  • Log and action any compliance issues using the relevant H&S and PPM systems.

  • Carry out regular apartment checks, including flushing taps and showers.

  • Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) visits.

Contractor Coordination

  • Liaise with external contractors, ensuring all works are completed to specification and high standards.

  • Assist with sourcing specialist contractors and negotiating value-for-money rates.

  • Manage work permits and ensure compliance documentation is in place before works commence.

Apartment Turnarounds

  • Conduct pre-check-in and pre-check-out inspections.

  • Carry out minor repairs, painting and redecoration to prepare apartments for new residents and minimise void time.

Resident Experience

  • Provide a warm, professional and customer-focused service to residents and visitors.

  • Keep residents informed of maintenance progress and building updates.

  • Meet agreed service-level targets for all maintenance tasks.

Person Profile

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Is highly organised, proactive and capable of managing their own workload.

  • Has strong technical and practical skills in general residential maintenance, especially joinery, painting and decorating.

  • Ideally has basic plumbing or electrical knowledge and a good understanding of H&S compliance (IOSH desirable).

  • Brings experience from residential property (PRS, BTR, PBSA) or hospitality settings.

  • Has a proven ability to manage PPM and compliance processes.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
