This is a unique opportunity to join a values-driven organisation and make a lasting impact on young lives through a therapeutic approach focused on secure attachment development.

About the Role

As a Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe and supportive home for young people with social, emotional, and mental health challenges due to past trauma. Using trauma-informed practices, including PACE, you will help children heal, build confidence, and prepare for future placements in foster care or family reunification. A senior therapeutic social worker will provide weekly therapeutic supervision and engage in play therapy with the children, enhancing the home's therapeutic model.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating a warm, structured, and fun environment in a newly renovated detached bungalow, promoting well-being and secure attachments.

  • Leading by example to mentor a team of 12 staff, ensuring high-quality care aligned with Ofsted standards and the Registered Manager's vision.

  • Engaging children in enriching activities (e.g., arts, cooking, sports, or outings) to foster healthy relationships and personal growth.

  • Developing and reviewing individual care plans and risk assessments, incorporating children's voices and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Managing challenging behaviours with sensitivity, using PACE and Team Teach to promote positive outcomes.

  • Maintaining accurate records in compliance with safeguarding and data protection regulations.

  • Collaborating with a senior therapeutic social worker for weekly supervision and play therapy sessions to support the children's emotional needs.

  • Working flexible shifts, including 1-2 sleep-ins per week (8 per month, adding approx. £4,000 annually to salary).

About You

We are seeking a dedicated professional with a passion for supporting vulnerable children through trauma-informed care. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

  • Significant experience working with vulnerable children, particularly those with EBD, in a residential or similar setting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practices, including PACE and Team Teach, to support children's emotional and behavioural needs.

  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to guide staff and build trusting relationships with young people.

  • Resilience and empathy to manage challenging behaviours while maintaining a nurturing approach.

  • Enthusiasm for engaging children in creative and recreational activities to enrich their lives.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and advocating for children's rights and individuality.
