Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Systems Project Engineer to join a department to support the development and delivery of advanced defence weapon system programmes.
This role performs the duties of leading subsystem and hardware project delivery, integration, and testing, and reports to the senior project or Chief Design Engineer within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver complex subsystems or hardware assemblies for integration within larger defence systems
- Lead technical work packages, balancing progress with risk mitigation
- Support the development and acceptance of technical and certification documentation
- Work with external partners and third-party suppliers to manage interfaces and deliverables
- Ensure subsystems meet project requirements and are compliant with safety, performance, and quality standards
- Support functional integration of hardware and subsystems into wider system architectures
- Drive technical direction during early project lifecycle phases and clarify stakeholder needs
- Engage proactively with stakeholders to support project objectives and foster collaboration
The ideal candidate would have:
- Experience working in early project lifecycle stages to influence technical direction
- Background in developing or delivering complex electrical, optical, or mechanical subsystems
- Experience with supplier management, statements of work, and contractual deliverables
- Knowledge of subsystem integration, testing, and certification processes
- Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in a defence, aerospace, or high-technology engineering environment
The ideal candidate must have:
- Strong technical capability in hardware design, assembly, and integration
- Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects on time and to specification
- Ability to lead and co-ordinate technical work alongside project management teams
- Experience in developing technical documentation to support certification and compliance
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
