Supreme Recruitment are looking for a Department Manager to join one of our clients based in Lichfield on a permanent basis.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Service Delivery
* Overall management of daily workload across all departments to ensure that optimum productivity is achieved.
* Responsible for ordering and maintaining all operating & shipping supplies to ensure that the right materials are available to operators whilst also proactively managing spend in conjunction with the wider management team.
* Support the Administration & Quality teams with the investigation of customer complaints and the implementation of corrective & preventative actions.
* Inspection and encouragement of UK Craftsmanship initiative to ensure that the highest quality of service and presentation are being always delivered.
* Working actively with the sales teams to ensure that customer requirements are met and that any emergent activities are coordinated and delivered in a prompt and professional manner.
* Support the Operations Manager with new initiatives to improve service, reduce costs and increase productivity.
* Ensure that all products are despatched with the appropriate protection to withstand transportation.
* In conjunction with the Operations Manager, ensure that all shift patterns are aligned to workload and demand.
* Review performance, consumption and other relevant data and produce professional business reports and presentations where required.
* Work proactively with logistics partners to ensure that the required standards of delivery are understood and met.
* Ensure that we select and use the correct carrier to achieve the service required, whilst keeping control of all transportation costs.
* Monitor, update and maintain order tracking on the mainframe with the current order status.
Warehouse Management
* Ensure that a positive housekeeping culture is encouraged within the whole warehouse environment, ideally using 6S and visual methodology.
* Ensure that all product racking is well maintained and complies with site Health & Safety guidelines.
* Ensure that all picking activities, including those at height, are undertaken in a safe and productive manner.
* Work with the Supervision & Inventory teams to identify and trend fast moving products and ensure that these are placed in optimum areas to support productivity.
* Work with the Inventory team to ensure that all stock is stored appropriately, is well maintained and free of waste and cross-contamination.
* Ensure that all Warehouse technology and systems are operational, including those used to support the “Just in Time” (JIT) services.
* Ensure that all JIT services are delivered in line with service agreements and that housekeeping standards are high.
* Promote a FIFO culture including stock held in JIT locations.
Staff Leadership & Development
* Supervision and co-ordination of all associates
* Resource planning to ensure consistent operational coverage.
* Identify training and development plans for location employees.
* Coordinate and support the recruitment and interview process for new employees.
* Ensure site staffs adhere to company & site Health and Safety, Environmental and quality procedures, and guidelines.
* Administration of the Kronos timekeeping system along with management and approval of all overtime requirements relating to all activities.
* Where required, conduct performance reviews, grievance meetings and disciplinary meetings in line with business policy.
* Maintenance, upkeep and approval of staff holidays and absence management.
* Assess, arrange, and monitor the provision of temporary labour to support service and maintain productivity.
Person Specification
Educated to 'A' Level standard or equivalent as a minimum.
Working knowledge of 6S, Lean or Six Sigma would be advantageous, but non-essential.
A minimum of 5 years' experience gained working in a Warehouse Management and/or People Management role.
A competent user of IT systems, with a good working knowledge of all MS applications.
Experience of data analysis & development of KPI reporting.
The ability to analyse a problem from different viewpoints & ensure a thorough conclusion.
Proven ability to communicate professionally both verbally and through written methods.
Able to prioritise a varied workload to meet operational demands.
A full UK driving license.
