COMPANY: PAE ANTARCTICA CONTRACT

Job Description

Supports the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) and the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program. ASC Electricians will perform maintenance or construction work, or any combination thereof, under the supervision of the Electrical Foreman. Tasking will be based on an individual's experience and departmental labor needs.

GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):

  •  Maintains a safe workplace program Adheres to ASC Electrical Safety Program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  •  Accomplishes maintenance and construction work under the supervision of the Electrical Foreman.
  •  Performs installation of branch circuits, power distribution wiring, electrical equipment, fixtures, and conduit according to the National Electric Code (NEC).
  •  Troubleshoots and repairs existing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  •  Performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
  •  Responds to afterhours emergency calls for repairs and service on a rotational duty schedule.
  •  Advises the Electrician Foreman on job progress and material/labor requirements.
  •  Accomplishes various projects utilizing design drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams.
  •  Completes accurate and thorough documentation of work performed and processes involved.
  •  Will be required to work outside in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
  •  Identifies unsafe conditions and/or NEC violations and reports them to the Electrician Foreman.
  •  Strives to promote electrical safety throughout the United States Antarctic Program.
  •  Works with other departments to plan and complete tasking.
  •  May deploy to remote field camps for periods of days or weeks, sleeping in a tent in potentially adverse weather conditions.
  •  Uses computer based labor, material and maintenance tracking applications.
  •  Performs other duties as required or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  •  High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  •  U.S. Vehicle Operators License required.
  •  A current Journeyman or Master Electrician license or other states' equivalent or your jurisdiction's equivalent is required.
  •  Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code and of the principles of electricity.
  •  Minimum four years (8,000 Hours) of documented experience in all phases of electrical work, including rough wiring, power distribution wiring, wiring of electrical equipment and fixtures, and installation of conduit is required.
  •  Ability to diagnose electrical issues and to maintain, adjust, repair, and replace electrical systems and components.
  •  Experience in repair and maintenance of airfield lighting and/or heat tracing of outdoor insulated piping is preferred.
  •  The ability to read design drawings and wiring diagrams is required.
  •  Experience working up to 480 volts is required; Experience working with voltages up to 4160 volts is desired.
  •  Experience in construction and maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities is preferred.
  •  Experience with or certification on NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is desired.
  •  Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  •  Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
  •  Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
  •  Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Note: Psychological examinations currently only required to winter at South Pole.
  •  Ability to communicate effectively with others and get along well with co-workers, grantees and other community members.
  •  Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
  •  US citizenship or Permanent US Resident status is required.
