Materials Manager Nottingham, Leading Aerospace Tier 1 £45,000 - £50,000 Overview A globally leading Aerospace business who are currently experiences fantastic growth are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to join their supply chain. Main aim of job * To take ownership of the supply of materials at the tactical level ensuring the right quantity of products arrive at the right time, at the right location and at the right cost. * To establish effective purchase order scheduling and expediting processes utilising terms and conditions of supplier contracts, working with internal planning and operations teams to improve material availability in support of manufacturing plans. * To create a can-do attitude within supply chain material scheduling through building highly collaborative internal and external relationships. * To provide support to strategic vendor initiatives, negotiations and supply solutions and enactment at the tactical level of make/buy and NPI requirements. * To implement robust operational supply performance monitoring, highlighting any supply risks or supply gaps through poor supplier performance and supporting delivery of subsequent supplier recovery programmes. * To manage and mitigate all quality related non-conformance at an operational level engaging with Engineering, Quality and Materials management teams ensuring issues are flagged and dealt with in a timely manner so as not to disrupt operations. * Provide presence at operations and programmes customer and manufacturing daily reviews to capture any issues and provide appropriate response to kitting shortages or issues that directly impact sales performance. Specific duties and responsibilities * Manages, co-ordinates and provides leadership to team members engaged in supply scheduling for all areas of the business. * Supports the development of purchasing policies and procedures for raw materials, purchased parts, components and services in collaboration with the Materials management team ensuring changes are robustly implemented and ensures standards and procedures are followed. * Prepares and issues purchase orders, schedules and change notices in accordance with set approval levels and aligned to business terms and conditions of supply. Reviews and ensures order deviations are recorded and followed up. * Contributes to establishing continual improvement within the team, seeking and implemented cost reduction programmes. * Undertakes root cause analysis of purchase price variances and enactment of mitigation plans. * Assists in negotiations with key suppliers or when conflicts occur on prices, deliveries or specifications. * Participates in production planning daily meetings for production schedules to ensure efficient internal customer service. * Supports the preparation of annual budgets and is accountable for maintaining departmental operations within budget. Plans and organises the team to best utilise personnel to achieve short term requirements. * Develops and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and performance reporting. * Undertakes team reviews to identify short falls in supplier performance and assists quality and materials teams to establish supplier recovery programmes. * Takes ownership for the operational implementation of tactical outsource and NPI programmes. * Responsible for managing supplier relations at a tactical level by executing and expediting purchase orders ensuring the right quantity of products arrive at the right place, at the right time and cost. * Demonstrates decision making skills to make optimal purchasing decisions based on supplier and customer contracts, situational information, and all other available data for assigned product lines at the optimal cost. * Understands and meets goals for service level, days of inventory on hand, purchase order expediting, as established by senior leadership team. * Co-ordinate and facilitate collaborative working between key departments such as materials management, programmes, operations, quality and engineering. * Build a high performing culture and team and ensure training matrix is developed, implemented and maintained. * Ensures team operates within the required health, safety legislation, and business code of conduct. Professional experience * Has 3 – 5 years’ experience in scheduling and expediting and negotiation within a manufacturing environment operating with ISO9001 and 14001 standards * Excellent analytical skills – Excel intermediary level as minimum * Detailed knowledge of MRP purchase order scheduling, lead time and supply parameters * Is Powerpoint and Word literate being able to produce a wide range of analysis, graphs and reports for communication at all levels * Has a collaborative approach to cross functional team working * Has relevant degree, MCIPS or similar supply chain related qualification * Is highly numerate and has impeccable attention to detail * Proactive, can do attitude with the ability to drive change and challenge the status quo * Is able to build strong and effective relationships both internally and externally * Is able to perform well under pressure and lead a small team
