The responsibilities of a Health Care Assistant (HCA) can vary depending on the setting, but they generally involve supporting patients with their daily needs and assisting healthcare professionals. Here's a breakdown of typical duties:

1. Personal Care Support

* Assisting patients with washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting

* Helping with mobility, such as moving, repositioning, or using walking aids

* Assisting with feeding or helping patients eat

* Changing bed linens and maintaining a clean, comfortable environment

2. Clinical Support (under supervision)

* Taking and recording vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration)

* Assisting with basic wound care

* Collecting urine, stool, or sputum samples

* Observing and reporting any changes in patients' physical or emotional condition

3. Emotional & Social Support

* Providing companionship and emotional reassurance

* Listening to patients' concerns and communicating them to nurses or doctors

* Encouraging independence and dignity

4. Administrative Duties (as needed)

* Keeping accurate records of patient care and observations

* Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges

* Stocking medical supplies and keeping equipment clean

5. Home Care Specific Duties (if applicable)

* Supporting clients with household tasks like cooking, laundry, and light cleaning

* Assisting with medication reminders (not usually administering medications unless trained)
