About the Role Essex Police are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Roads Policing Process Support Officer to join the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to road safety enforcement by supporting the processing and progression of road crime cases.

You will handle incoming communications, assess offences captured by roadside and camera technology, liaise with members of the public, and support the broader Roads Policing Support functions to ensure accurate and timely case handling.

Key Responsibilities
Process incoming and outgoing communications via post, email, and telephone, adhering to internal service level agreements.

Review camera-captured offences and determine eligibility for prosecution; discontinue offences when appropriate.

Support the wider Roads Policing Unit with additional processing demands and maintain a working knowledge across associated departments.

Act as a professional point of contact for public queries, escalating complex or sensitive issues as needed.

Use police systems to input, retrieve, and assess data for case progression; undertake initial investigation steps including tracing offenders and identifying offence patterns.

Complete process map checks and escalation reports to support full investigations, with particular attention to victim identification.

Maintain compliance with Essex Police policies and quality standards, ensuring interactions are fair, professional, and well-documented.

Contribute to team meetings and process improvement discussions; assist with the induction and training of new team members when required.

Attend court as a prosecution witness if necessary.

Required Skills & Experience
Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) including English

At least 6 months of office administration experience

Strong written communication skills and attention to detail

Ability to review, extract, and present information accurately

Proficient in Microsoft Office, with solid keyboard and typing skills

Willingness to learn and work across a range of police systems

Desirable:

Knowledge of Data Protection Act

Experience with police systems (e.g., PNC, STORM, Intelligence, etc.)

Familiarity with CRASH (collision reporting system)
