Portfolio Payroll are supporting a well‑established organisation who are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their Support Services team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a busy, collaborative Payroll Team who provide essential support to colleagues across the Society.

About the Role

As a Payroll Specialist, you will manage the full end‑to‑end payroll process across multiple systems, ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time. You'll act as a trusted point of contact for payroll and pension queries, support audits, maintain GDPR compliance, and contribute to ongoing system improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to payroll and pension queries, providing clear and accurate guidance
Manage end‑to‑end payroll across multiple payrolls, ensuring timely and compliant processing
Perform payroll checks, reconciliations, and resolve errors, warnings, and tax code updates
Process starters, leavers, contractual changes, deductions, statutory payments and third‑party schedules
Administer auto‑enrolment processes including assessments, opt‑ins/outs and payment reconciliations
Maintain accurate payroll records and support internal/external audits
Ensure GDPR and data protection compliance across all payroll activity
Validate reports and calculations to ensure accurate payslips and legislative compliance
Support system testing, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

We're looking for an honest, reliable and motivated individual with strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. You'll thrive in a fast‑paced environment and bring at least 2 years' payroll experience.

You will also demonstrate:

Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and payroll regulations
Excellent IT skills including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams
Experience using iTrent (desirable but not essential)
High accuracy in data entry and strong numeracy skills
Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
Understanding of GDPR, data protection and payroll compliance
