Client: Main Contractor specialising in M&E and Construction Refurbishment within the Education Sector

Overview:

Our client, a rapidly growing main contractor based in Liverpool, is seeking an experienced and proactive Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join their expanding team. The company specialises in Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects as well as construction refurbishment work in the education sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing costs across a range of exciting projects, with a focus on energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in M&E and construction, preferably with experience in education projects, and will be comfortable taking on cost management responsibilities while working alongside project managers (PMs) and estimators. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated QS looking to join a dynamic and growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management: Oversee and manage costs for various education sector projects, with values reaching up to £1 million on the higher end.
  • Project Liaison: Work closely with Project Managers (PMs) and Estimators to ensure project costs are accurately forecasted and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Carbon Efficiency Focus: Contribute to the management of projects with a particular focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction, aligning with the company's commitment to eco-friendly solutions.
  • Procurement and Subcontractor Management: Assist with procurement processes and manage subcontractor accounts.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed financial reports, including cost tracking and budget forecasts.
  • Contract Administration: Administer contracts, ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions.
  • Client Liaison: Communicate with clients, advising on financial progress and resolving any cost-related queries or issues.
  • Team Support: Provide support to senior project management and commercial teams.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Circa 5 years of experience in a Quantity Surveying role, with exposure to M&E or construction projects. Experience in education sector projects would be a strong advantage.
  • M&E Background: Ideally, candidates should have a background or understanding of M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) works, as the company works on a large number of M&E-focused projects.
  • Project Values: Experience managing projects with a value of up to £1 million.
  • Knowledge of Carbon Efficiency: A solid understanding of sustainability, carbon reduction practices, and energy-efficient designs in construction projects.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to liaise effectively with Project Managers and Estimators.
  • Proactive Approach: Ability to take ownership of cost management and project financials, while ensuring deadlines are met and budgets are adhered to.
  • Availability: Ideally, the candidate should be available to start as soon as possible to ensure smooth preparation for summer projects.
