Deputy Facilities Manager
Full Time (40 hours per week) Salary: £34,000 to £39,000 per annum

We are seeking a Deputy Facilities Manager to join the Facilities Management team at a fully contained residential Immigration Removal Centre. This centre houses adult males and females from diverse backgrounds, with a strong focus on respect, decency, and continuous service improvement. The centre accommodates residents of various faiths, beliefs, and cultural values. Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, the Deputy Facilities Manager will oversee the day-to-day organisation and allocation of maintenance tasks, ensuring planned and reactive maintenance activities meet both operational needs and contractual requirements. You will act as the vital link between skilled and semi-skilled trades staff and the management team, maintaining high standards across all aspects of facilities operations.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in developing and maintaining comprehensive maintenance plans to ensure the centre remains safe, compliant with statutory requirements, and aligned with contract obligations
Plan and prioritise maintenance activities in line with the SFG20 maintenance programme, utilising the CAFM system effectively
Monitor and manage the progress of maintenance tasks and productivity of the team, ensuring efficient delivery of the daily work plan
Allocate work to trades staff based on maintenance priorities, tracking progress and resolving any issues promptly
Ensure all tools and equipment are regularly inspected and used according to manufacturers' guidelines
Supervise contractors on site, ensuring their compliance with risk assessments, method statements, and quality standards through regular audits
Provide first-line leadership, ensuring all team members understand their tasks and maintain high productivity and quality standards
Monitor and manage financial spend, purchase necessary spares and equipment in accordance with procurement procedures, and authorise overtime as per company policy
Promote and maintain a positive safety culture and wellbeing within the team, fostering values of trust, care, innovation, and pride
Make operational decisions within delegated authority and deputise for the Facilities Manager as required to ensure seamless delivery of all maintenance activities
Participate as part of the Facilities 'out of hours' call-out rota to provide ongoing supportPerson Specification

The ideal candidate will have experience in both operational and management roles within facilities management, preferably with exposure to custodial or secure environments. You will have a strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation, environmental compliance, quality assurance, and COSHH regulations.
Experience with CAFM systems is essential, along with a solid working knowledge of SLAs and KPIs including their development and management. You should be qualified as an Approved Person for permitted work and have demonstrable experience managing diverse teams of qualified, skilled, and semi-skilled staff.
Experience in workflow management, supervision of maintenance activities, and achieving productivity and quality targets is vital. While a qualification as an Approved Electrician (JIB) with 18th Edition or equivalent City & Guilds mechanical qualifications (plumbing, heating, air conditioning, gas) would be advantageous, it is not essential.
