Backshift Engineer - Heathrow Airport

Location: Heathrow Airport
Shift: 2:00pm - 10:00pm (Backshift)
Rate: £450 per shift (PAYE)
Start: Immediate / ASAP

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to support critical infrastructure renewal works within Heathrow Airport's main tunnel network. This is a high-profile programme delivering essential upgrades to ensure long-term safety, compliance, and operational resilience across one of the world's busiest aviation environments.

The role sits within a live operational tunnel environment, requiring strong planning, technical oversight, and close coordination with night-shift delivery teams working within restricted closure windows.

You will take responsibility for managing engineering readiness during the afternoon and evening shift, ensuring all works are fully prepared, briefed, and compliant ahead of nightly installation activities. This is a key coordination role bridging day planning and night execution.

Operational & Technical Management

* Oversee day-to-day engineering activities on site, ensuring all works comply with approved designs and specifications

* Manage and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring programme, quality, and safety standards are met

* Act as the primary link between planning and delivery teams

* Ensure the night-shift team is fully briefed, resourced, and technically supported before tunnel closures commence

Essential Experience& Skills

* Strong background in Civil engineering

* Proven experience delivering works on complex infrastructure projects such as:

* tunnels

* highways

* rail or major civils environments

* Ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings and manage works in a live operational setting

* Confident leadership and communication skills with experience managing multidisciplinary site teams

Desirable

* Previous experience working within an airport or other high-security, highly regulated environment

* Valid CSCS card

* SMSTS or equivalent health & safety qualification

* Familiarity with NEC contracts and change management processes
