Progress Teachers are working closely with a number of mainstream primary schools across Birmingham to provide high-quality 1:1 support for pupils with complex needs, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH and behaviours that may challenge. We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children who require specialist support to thrive in school.

In this role, you will work with pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis, supporting their learning, emotional regulation, and personal development. You'll collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, families, and wider multidisciplinary professionals to implement consistent, personalised strategies that promote positive progress.

Responsibilities

Support pupils with complex needs by following tailored support plans and behaviour intervention strategies.

Provide effective de-escalation, emotional regulation support, and positive behaviour guidance.

*

Assist pupils with daily routines, providing a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

*

Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, external professionals and families to create cohesive support.

*

Monitor pupil progress, adapt approaches as needed, and contribute to review meetings.

*

Support children during learning activities, play, transitions, and social interaction times.

*

Maintain accurate records, including progress notes, behaviour logs, and intervention data.

*

Promote inclusive practice and help pupils develop independence, confidence, and positive relationships.

Skills & Experience

*

Experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or other complex additional needs.

*

Strong understanding of behaviour management, de-escalation, and trauma-informed approaches.

*

Excellent communication skills with pupils, staff, and families.

*

Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting diverse needs.

*

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

*

Organised with strong record-keeping skills.

*

A DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

*

Level 3 (or equivalent) in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related qualification
