An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established, globally recognised engineering organisation specialising in critical power and electrical test systems. With operations across the globe, the company is known for delivering innovative, high-reliability engineering solutions used in mission-critical environments worldwide.
As an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer you will lead the development and packaging of all mechanical components into power systems. As a senior mechanical engineer you'll work closely with Electrical, Systems and Software engineers to deliver state‑of‑the‑art designs for customers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
* Translate customer requirements to develop the power systems mechanical definition and specification.
* Produce CAD models using SolidWorks (sheet metal) and select components/specifications considering standards, availability and cost.
* Structure models in PDM to company standards.
* Collaborate with Electrical and Systems teams to ensure designs are feasible, safe and cost‑effective.
* Support key vendors, guiding construction and manufacture of products with electrical elements.
* Address complex design and manufacturing challenges within the engineering team.
* Present/discuss ideas with suppliers and create prototypes/samples for testing.
* Produce detailed mechanical design documents (layout drawings and calculations).
* Resolve design issues arising during fabrication, production, testing or service.
* Ensure designs are released to meet business deadlines and deliver accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Prepare/check documentation to satisfy customer, company and regulatory requirements.
* Keep up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards.
Skills & Experience Required
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred (or equivalent experience).
* Strong technical skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
* Proficient with SolidWorks; PDM & FEA knowledge preferred.
* Competent with Microsoft Office; familiar with BOM structures and management.
* Experience in shipping‑container or control‑panel design (preferred).
* Experience with welded assemblies (preferred).
* Knowledge of cable routing (preferred).
* Experience working with any of the following industries / areas would be beneficial:
* Critical power or energy infrastructure systems
* Industrial automation or control systems
* Electrical test or commissioning environments
* Generator or power distribution equipment
* Industrial electronics or control panels
