Family Support Worker

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives? Do you believe every student deserves the chance to succeed? Are you ready to start and commit to a role from September 2025?

We're looking for a dedicated and empathetic Family Support Worker to join our pastoral team. At this Blackpool Secondary Academy, their core purpose is to challenge educational and social disadvantage, striving for the highest possible standards and empowering all our students to lead successful lives.

This vital role is part of a redesigned Social, Emotional, and Mental Well being provision, developed in consultation with young people themselves. You'll be a key part of a supportive team, providing bespoke support to pupils and their families, ensuring every child feels safe, respected, and valued.

What You'll Do:

As a Family Support Worker, you'll provide crucial support and guidance to pupils, focusing on their academic and personal development across attendance, behaviour, and mental/emotional well being. Your responsibilities will include:

Direct Pupil Support: Have focused conversations with students to identify issues, offering information and guidance to boost academic achievement, improve attendance, and foster positive mental well being.

Attendance & Behaviour Improvement: Monitor and implement strategies to improve pupil attendance and behaviour.

Family Engagement: Ensure families and carers are fully involved in their child's education, including conducting paired home visits to advise on supporting individual support plans.

Case Management: Develop and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISPs), resolve individual pupil issues, and oversee support packages for reintegration into school.

Safeguarding & Referrals: Identify when further specialist support is needed, complete early help referrals, and attend safeguarding and child protection meetings. You'll also act as a Designated Safeguarding Person, responding to concerns and maintaining daily records.

Pastoral Team Collaboration: Work closely with the wider pastoral team, managing your work flow from a central triage system, and providing cover for absent teaching staff when necessary.

Policy Implementation: Consistently implement all academy policies, including those related to safeguarding and first aid (as a designated first aider).

Professional Development: Fully engage in our appraisal process to achieve your personal potential and contribute to the academy's goals.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone with a clear and unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. You'll be expected to work in line with academy and Trust safeguarding policies, fostering a culture of vigilance. Previous pastoral experience or a role will be an advantage as well as prior experience of working in a school or care sector in a similar role with an understanding of SEMH, behaviour, special needs and compiling support plans for children and families.

Why Join Us?

This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking Academy genuinely committed to the holistic development of its students. You'll be working with an Academy under a multi-academy trust umbrella, which provides excellent networking opportunities and potential for future employment at other sister schools. Local public transport routes, on site car parking and local vendors are available for food/breaks.

Salary: NJC Grade F SCP 19-24

Reporting to: Head of Pastoral

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday

Contract: Temporary to permanent route, based on your success and suitability in the role.

If you're passionate about supporting young people to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential, we want to hear from you!
