(Server & Storage Contractor)

Milton Keynes

Hybrid working 3 days in and 2 from home.

Join our team as IT Infrastructure Specialist.

The ICAEW IT Infrastructure team undertake a wide variety of interesting project work as well as BAU support. We are a busy but friendly and talented team. We would welcome a hard working, positive, hands-on support specialist who can bring their Infrastructure skillset to the team and make an immediate impact.

Overall purpose of this role of IT Infrastructure Specialist

Reporting to the IT/AV Infrastructure Manager, the post holder will work with their peers to ensure regular assessment of the organisation's infrastructure, recommending enhancements and identifying areas of weakness. This will include design, building, testing and implementation of cloud services (i.e. Microsoft 365 and Azure), networks and connectivity, server and storage, desktop delivery, application delivery, system administration and network fundamentals. The post holder will also respond to incidents, requests, tasks, request for change through our IT service management system.

IT Infrastructure Specialist Responsibilities include:

  • Working with peers to maintain, support, enhance and document the robust IT infrastructure architecture to ensure maximum system availability.
  • Provide expertise for Microsoft 365 configuration and delivery, Microsoft Azure Services, storage area network (PURE), Windows Server, VMWare, Windows desktop, Virtual Desktop (Citrix ADS VDI), Microsoft Exchange (Hybrid set-up), Hardware image and application deployment (SCCM), Thin client estate, backup, and restoration (Veritas NetBackup), Remote access through VPN or Portal access using Citrix Netscalar with RSA authentication, endpoint protection (Sophos Central and Trend)
  • Handle incidents, requests, tasks, request for changes, and asset movements from our IT service management system (ServiceNow) in line with our ITIL documented processes.
  • Act as a technical mentor in your areas of expertise for other Infrastructure and Help Desk staff.
  • Out of hours work, and occasional travel away from your normal place of work to other ICAEW offices to minimise disruption to the business will be required. Additional hours will be paid.
  • Carry out regular patching and updates to the ICAEW desktop and server estate.
  • Specific duties will vary from time to time in line with the business needs.

IT Infrastructure Specialist Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience working in a third line role within an enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the following. As short test may be required.

Networks (LANs, WANs, MPLS, Routers and Firewalls)

Cloud Services (Microsoft 365 and Azure Services)

Server and Storage (VMWare, Windows Server and SAN)

Desktop Delivery (Microsoft SCCM)

Virtual Desktop Delivery (Citrix ADS VDI and profile management i.e. AppSense)

Email system (Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 Exchange Online)

Application Deployment (Citrix ADS, SCCM)

Backup and restoration (Veritas NetBackup and Azure services)

Managed print solution

Remote Access via VPN or portal using two factor authentication (Citrix Netscalar with RSA)

Patch deployment (SCCM and Windows Update)

  • Knowledge of IT best practice using ITIL
  • Current professional Cloud and/or server and storage qualifications
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
