SEN Teaching Assistant / SEN Teacher

Location: Barnet, London Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant / SEN Teacher to join our inclusive primary school in Barnet. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting children with a range of special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they have access to high-quality learning opportunities and achieve their full potential.

Key ResponsibilitiesFor SEN Teacher
  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEN.

  • Work closely with the SENCO to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Assess pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to support holistic development.

  • Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment.

  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives and professional development.

For SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering inclusive lessons.

  • Implement intervention programmes and support learning plans.

  • Help manage behaviour and encourage positive social interactions.

  • Support with personal care needs where required.

  • Monitor pupil progress and feedback to teachers and SENCO.

Candidate RequirementsSEN Teacher
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience teaching pupils with SEN in a primary setting.

  • Strong knowledge of the national curriculum and differentiation strategies.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Empathy, patience, and resilience.

SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience).

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN.

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.

  • Enthusiasm for helping children achieve their potential.

Salary Expectations
  • SEN Teaching Assistant (TA): £22,349 - £28,161 per year (depending on experience and pay scale).

  • SEN Teacher: £30,000 - £45,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications).
