We are currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Huddersfield who are seeking a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant with a specialism in supporting pupils with Visual Impairments (VI).
About the role:
You will be supporting primary-age pupils with a range of needs, with a primary focus on learners with visual impairments. Some pupils may also have co-occurring needs such as:
- ASC (verbal and non-verbal)
- Learning difficulties
- Complex needs
The school is looking for someone who:
- Has experience in working with children or young people with visual impairments, ideally in an educational setting.
- Understands strategies for adapting learning resources, using assistive technology, and creating an accessible classroom environment.
- Is patient, proactive, and skilled at building strong relationships with pupils to help them access learning and develop independence.
- Has knowledge of specialist equipment (e.g. braillers, screen readers, magnification tools) or is willing to be trained.
Experience of working with students with severe ASC, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), or sensory impairments is desirable. Backgrounds in Theatre in Education (TIE) or delivering workshops for children can also be beneficial.
