SEN Teaching Assistant | Primary School | BlackburnRole Overview:We are seeking a dedicated compassionate, and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.Duties/roles:

• Work closely with individual pupils or small groups with SEN, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or physical disabilities.
• Assist the class teacher in implementing learning activities and adapting materials to meet individual needs.
• Promote inclusion and encourage social interaction among pupils.
• Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Person specification:

• SEN Teaching Assistant Qualifications or
• Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
• Experience working in a mainstream or special school setting.
• Training in specific SEN strategies (e.g. Makaton, PECS, Team Teach).
• Experience supporting children with complex needs or EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
• Good literacy and numeracy skills – evidenced by GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grades 9–4 (A–C).

Essential requirements:

• Enhanced DBS check.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Provide references of previous employment.
• Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
