Key Worker / Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – Year 9 Student)

Alternative Provision – Supporting Students Unable to Access Full-Time Mainstream EducationLocation: King's LynnContract: Full-time

Are you passionate about transforming outcomes for young people who need additional support? We are seeking a committed and resilient Key Worker / Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 9 pupil with diagnosed ADD and ADHD within our Alternative Provision setting. This role is perfect for someone calm, proactive and dedicated to helping students re-engage with learning in a safe, structured and supportive environment.

About the Role

As a Key Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic, emotional and behavioural development of a young person on a personalised timetable. Working closely with senior leaders, pastoral teams, and external agencies, you will ensure the student receives consistent, tailored support that enables progress both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Planning

  • Work with Assistant Head Teachers and Pastoral Leads to build a supportive caseload and provide 1:1 personalised support to the allocated Y9 student.
  • Conduct initial assessments of the learner’s educational, emotional, and behavioural needs and develop tailored advocacy and support programmes.
  • Design, deliver and review pupil support plans, ensuring they reflect daily support needs and identified targets.
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions, offering mentoring, guidance and practical help based on pupil needs.

Attendance & Engagement

  • Drive attendance within your caseload by making daily calls, attending meetings, and implementing attendance-focused interventions.
  • Establish baseline data (attendance, attainment, predicted grades) and monitor progress using agreed performance indicators.

Collaboration & Multi-Agency Work

  • Work closely with teaching staff to ensure continuity of delivery and consistency in both educational and social learning.
  • Liaise with external agencies under the direction of the Pastoral Site Lead or Assistant Headteacher, making referrals where appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings including PEPs, core groups, planning sessions and reviews.

Safeguarding & Behaviour

  • Regularly risk-assess the young person, identifying vulnerabilities and risks relating to attendance, behaviour, or personal safety.
  • Record all safeguarding concerns accurately and in line with policy on the same day.
  • Support behaviour management, ensuring all behaviours are responded to fairly, consistently and in line with the behaviour policy.

Flexibility

  • Be willing to work across varied settings including school, college, community locations, and occasionally environments such as court, police stations or young offender institutions.
  • Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and residential trips as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, nurturing and able to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Experienced working with young people who display challenging behaviour or have complex needs (desirable).
  • Resilient, consistent and confident in managing behaviour.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing needs.
  • Passionate about inclusion and committed to improving life chances for vulnerable learners.
