Introduction

Our client, a leading multi-site manufacturing organisation based in Birmingham, is seeking a commercially minded Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in shaping the company's financial strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic finance professional who thrives on driving performance, improving processes and systems, and leading a high-performing team.

Role Summary

You will assist the Group Financial Director in preparing monthly consolidated and fully integrated management accounts for the group companies, ensuring covenant compliance. You will also produce individual company management accounts, detailed finance reports, and provide insightful commentary to directors.

The role demands strong knowledge of costing, margin analysis, production labour and overhead recovery, scrap analysis, and intercompany costing updates. Budget preparation, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and forecasting will be key components of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

* Prepare complete and timely monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts; present findings to the management team and Board.

* Produce annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, including detailed variance analysis.

* Analyse sales, production, and purchasing processes to identify opportunities for performance improvement.

* Conduct monthly stock movement analysis and lead year-end stocktakes.

* Support and challenge departmental managers on financial performance.

* Monitor and review sales performance by product line/area to ensure volume and margin targets are achieved.

* Develop and report on KPIs to measure and drive business efficiency.

* Complete quarterly VAT reconciliations and payroll reconciliations.

* Assist with year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.

* Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement across the business.

* Manage ad hoc projects and quarterly grant returns.

* Full UK driving licence.

Experience & Qualifications

* Degree in Finance or Accounting with a recognised professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).

* Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.

* Hands-on financial management experience.

* Proven ability to present complex financial information to senior stakeholders
